Hi, well with my legs been back in metalwork again (shiny stainless steel) you easily forget the stares you get but in the last month it's really give me a buzz again so much so that I've bought some shorter leg length trousers not to short to look stupid but just enough to show off more metalwork and the backstop plates and buckles so when sitting they ride up ever so nicely so both shoes are fully exposed ,and what gives me the most pleasure is taking the bus daily (OAP pass) really to nowhere and back looking for full busses giving other people the chance to stare and talk about my braces ,I like to look people in the face for their reactions some just stare regardless others look away but the best seem to have a sympathetic stare and just smile, some have approached an engaged in conversation(cover story mild polio in the fifties) some go out of their way to help ,as I've said can't wait for the trainers white with a black tick they will certainly stand out ,even better in a pair of shorts .since getting back into metal ive really had a strange month my fascination of leg braces has really taken hold of my and the more I think the more I would love to try out a kafo I think I'm possibly turning close to going from a pretender to wanting to be a wannabe have been trying to think of ways to aid myself to full fill this strong urge but scared also will have to see the doctor to come clean and see if he can help me one way or the other will update later

Hi there Worn leg braces for over 60 years as a result of childhood polio. After all this time I still get a buzz when I get new ones. After many years of braces kind of being a taboo topic I am more than willing to share experiences or chat to anyone who would like to know more about the real thing. Always always have the metal and leather They may be heavy but they are strong and reliable Had thermoplastic just once Not supportive enough for me and caused awful skin irritation

Glad your visit went well, it does take some courage to get over the anxiety, but on my visits to the orthotist I used, it also turned out that the anxiety was misplaced. Even though I have a preference for a left leg KAFO I have a matched pair, see how it goes, I know some bracers have stayed at just the one.

As Castmenow already knows from another posting, I shall stay with just the one. I'm a right-leg KAFO man. Don't know why. Always have been and probably always will be. I don't like the thought of bi-lateral disablement or wheelchair use but really miss it when my own brace is not doing what my right leg normally should be. Having said that, I doesn't mean I don't understand other's different preferences.

I have a made up left leg KAFO but it’s rather tight I wore it the nec Campervan show last August for nearly 9 hours and when I took it off my leg was numb and bruised there is no comparison really with this brace but the temp one seemed that it was meant to be there .will update Hi
