A chiropodist has told me to wear Doc Marten boots, and sandals in summer. Do any of you wear DMs with sockets for calipers? Likewise sandals? I'd be glad to hear from you. Rowland

I don't think it would be easy to add sockets to Doc soles, the material doesn't look like it would lend itself to it. That said, I'm wearing US-style combat boots with stirrup sockets installed; it cost a little more than attaching to leather soles, but no complain from the shop.

A couple of days ago I gave my usual boots a rest and put on some older ones which I don't often wear because the leather is harder. After a few hours of wearing them I realized I was re-locking the medial (inside) kneelock quite often. As with my usual boots the side of my knee makes contact with the brace. But the sockets are lower on the heel, so that the ischial ring has room to move up and down when I move around. The unlocking is a slight nuisance. If I get measured for a new brace I will bear this difference in mind. It's another reminder of the importance of precision in measurements, manufacture and in adapting boots.
