I used advanced search and just put in "buy_and_sell_hu" in the seller box. What a wide range of braces and at very reasonable prices, although getting a perfect fit may not be possible. As many of us seem adept at amateur orthotics, that might not be a problem. No wonder the price of second hand braces has dropped since 10 years ago, when you can get new ones like this.

I've been seing those for a few months now and am rather puzzled as to why this seller is offering new items that would normally be made to measure. Most of them seem quite small too. Good feedback scores though.

Perhaps they are a trainee orthotist and they have to make these things as part of their training, but the amount produced would seem excessive for this.
As an aside I do not think that I have mentioned that my wife worked in orthopaedic rehab for some time and during her student days she came home with braces several times that had been made during training sessions, but never anything as ambitious as a KAFO, mainly moulded plastic things like wrist, knee and neck braces. She also had plaster cast training but I never saw her in a cast unluckily. Once when she was working she went on a weekend cast application course and I offered to go along to be the castee but she did not take me up on it.

seller:nevergiveup1990 Another one that has the odd KAFO and other stuff. I have never found the German style of braces very attractive compared to historic British ones, I suppose it is what one is bought up seeing, a bit like food tastes. The adapted shoes for use with foot inserts with the removable back heel section with the wind up knob are ingenious though, I have never seen the like of those before.

Yes, I agree about the style. I much prefer the look of pins into heel sockets, but I had also spotted the wind-up arrangement, very clever and similar to some of the rear entry ski boots of a few years ago.

I don't know where I got the information from (so I might be wrong) but I have a feeling that orthotics, amputations, etc are still more common in Eastern Europe so perhaps there is an economy of scale there which lowers prices.
My sister-in-law was a British Army nursing sister stationed in Germany some time ago and I remember her telling me that if you ever got a limb-threatening condition whilst in Eastern Europe then to get yourself repatriated to the UK quick before they chopped it off as the surgeons tended to amputate for less serious conditions than the UK who always tried to save a limb if they could. She also claimed this was partly to do with the quality and sophistication of German medical engineering which was far superior to the UK and therefore offered patients a better quality of life going forward. It wouldn't surprise me if similar attitudes to orthotics prevailed at the time and, with the unification of Germany, I suspect medical philosophies will have spread East.
The above is supposition on my part and developed from second hand facts (old ones at that!) so I could be spouting complete rubbish. Any one been to Eastern Europe lately who could comment on brace usage today?
