If I could get any kind of brace I'd want something from head to toe and it be bolted on the only way they'd come off is with special tools

My ideal brace would be very simple in comparison - just a steel and leather KAFO for my right leg. I would want an internal foot plate to prevent ankle flexion and to make it less obvious if I were to wear it in public. In addition, Swiss knee locks operable with one hand. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether to go for full length lace-up thigh and calf cuffs or to specify plenty of straps and buckles instead. Currently I'm using a modified second hand thermoplastic brace with additional straps. I find a number of straps, particularly around the thigh, make adjustments to achieve a tight but comfortable fit more easily achievable.

I would like a metal and leather AFO for my left leg to match the KAFO I wear on my right leg. As well as just enjoying donning and doffing a brace and having it on in between, I like to be out and about. It is very rare for people to comment on it but I just like to be part of the public as a brace-wearer. Before I needed a brace for medical reasons I would choose occasions and places to wear my home-made braces. Comments were very rare but I remember once getting extra chips for free in a chippy! As for the feel of wearing braces I would enjoy wearing a KAFO on each leg but I'm pretty sure I would need to use crutches for safety, or a wheelchair,- both options would limit my activities more than I woukd be happy with.

For me i would love to have a pair of thermoplastic AFO braces again.
But if the budget was completely limitless then i would like to experience some sort of HKAFO / RGO brace. (I think I mentioned that on a similar thread)
However, I've recently seen some of the pictures of the Minerva braces that VB has made for customers. Something else I would like to try and experience but really don't know if i would like it or not. (I've had no experience with spinal and cervical braces).
If it is something I do end up trying and liking with a limitless budget, Then a combination of the two! However I would be very doubtful that will get the girlfriend approval. :-(

Well, I have my ideal braces, lucky to be able to afford them without worrying about the cost. However, now I have retired I do not expect to spend on new large braces. If money and the other half wwere not a concern then a significant metal and leather spinal brace would be very welcome, a vintage style Milwaukee or Kuenhegger would be good or CTLSO, but one with head immobilisation. As mentioned elsewhere I did have a Florida Brace Company Jewett CTLSO I sold and regret parting with.

Something else I would like to try and experience but really don't know if i would like it or not. (I've had no experience with spinal and cervical braces). A cheap way of experiencing a cervical brace is a hard collar. It will restrict head and neck movement although it doesn't fully immobilise, but it will give you some idea of the experience without breaking the bank. Chaneco have a selection from just £12. I have a couple of collars which I wear from time to time. I fancy a Minerva jacket too but can't really justify £1500!

Trying a hard collar is a interesting idea and now thinking on getting one.
For me at this moment in time, spending £12 is much preferred than spending £1500. To be honest i had no idea that's how Much the Minerva braces from VB were.

Chaneco have discontinued the Thomas collar that I have, unfortunately, and the £12 looks like one I got from Remploy and which is quite uncomfortable. The chin rest on the Thomas appeals to me - here's an example:
If I needed a replacement now I'd probably go for this one:
I think it would be worth the 4x price of the cheapo one. The Thomas ones were about £20 and they turned up on eBay after Chaneco discontinued them so I guess someone bought up the remaining stock. I did a quick check last night and they seem to have gone . Good luck anyway, and do let us know how you get on .

I would want a Minerva type brace with the full torso shell and to have it attached and only special tools can remove it - added with two full leg cast (dual LLC’s) propped up in my wheelchair !

Hi, I'd go for weight so double up the metal work / add additional weights so each kafo weighed say 5kg, A heavily padded bucket top and a swiss knee lock would be essential.

I would like two but I wouldn’t wear them together. 1. An old fashioned steel and leather Milwaukee. 2. A steel and leather patten brace on my left leg. I would have a raise on my right but able to change the shoe to drive an automatic.

For me it would be two full-length traditional weight bearing kafo's with iscial rings. Also patten ended brace, with matching lift for other leg of course. Although it would be impractical, I would really like to experience two patten ended braces at the same time.

I am lucky enough to have had 2 full length kafos for some time now. They have a lace up top and I wear full length boots. My wife allows me to wear them once a week for a whole day. So for one day a week I can fully relax. I want to wear them in public but have yet to pluck up courage!

Public does take courage, but I have found people may look but very rarely interact with you. The key to being relaxed in public is going far enough away from home to know that you have little chance of being seen.

I'm greedy- my ultimate would be head-to-toe bracing with attached arm and finger braces, would then also need a power chair and a different place to live. Second is a CTLSO to attach to the KAFOs I already have. Third is a set of townsend KAFOs. The list goes on, sigh. (Already have a quite serviceable milwaukee.)
