I had a sighting yesterday. I was stuck in traffic whilst driving past a school around half 3 ish and I was caught by a crossing guard stopping the traffic to allow students etc cross the road. I noticed at the back of the queue of students crossing, There was a lad (Around 14 / 15 years old) with a pair of thermoplastic AFO's with camoflage pattern on them which were clearly seen as he was wearing shorts. As he was crossing the road I noticed he was walking very confidently with them and it looked like his friend was carrying his crutches. My first thought was well done, Those braces dont seem to stop you in any way or form. I doubt i will see him again as its a area I very rarely go to.

Was in large supermarket yesterday. Whilst in queue for checkout an older gentleman crossed the other side of the checkout with a younger man (son?). The older man was walking fairly slowly with a stick. I could see the metal ends of what was clearly a kafo in his heel sockets. his leg was kept straight. They moved into the coffee and snack area directly in front and I saw him release the knee locks to sit down.

The other day I had a, what now seems rare, sighting of a guy with a KAFO, whilst I was having the obliatory 15 minute wait after getting my Covid booster jab. The guy had what looked like a right leg KAFO and possibly also a left leg AFO although I couldn't really tell for sure but his left leg wad definitely parially paralysed. Both were probably plasic as there was no visible fitting on his shoes, interestingly the catch to release the knee lock on his KAFO appeared to be above the knee probably attached to the top cuff. The crutches he was using were unusual, well at least to me, they were sort of a cross between an under arm and elbow crutch, Ive seen something similar before but the top part for the upper arm was open rather than a closed hoop which I have seen before.
I was thankful to be able to get all my Covid jabs done at one of the vaccination centres rather then through my GP which avoided any potentially awkward questions about my current use of a wheelchair. I'm not sure what most of the medical profession would think of someone who chooses not to walk but I doubt it would be positive or helpful!
Writing this also reminded me of many years ago when I worked in one of the deign offices of a large negineering company. There was a guy who worked in another department who wore a full leather and metal KAFO, which he often has over his jeans and therefore on full view. Maybe it was easier if he was late for work! I really wish I had paid more attention but I was deeply in the closet about my disability attraction in those days.
I hope this makes a change from the outbreak of SPAM postings this forum seems to be suffering again!

A boy at the school bus stop was wearing a patten ended perthes brace. One foot suspended above the ground and a metal lift under his other shoe to compensate. This was the most interesting type of caliper I had seen. One of my old classmate wore such one, too! Since it I love the KAFO brace
